SPECIALIZED COURTS

OFFERING VIVITROL PLUS COUNSELING AS A TREATMENT OPTION IN A SPECIALIZED COURT

Specialized courts may provide an alternative to incarceration for appropriate non-violent offenders who suffer from opioid and alcohol dependence. Courts interested in offering treatment for opioid or alcohol dependence as part of their court programs may want to consider the following:

YOUR SPECIALIZED COURT PROGRAM

The specialized court may designate a team to lead the program. The program process may include roles and responsibilities of team members, education, development of materials and documentation. If VIVITROL is incorporated into the program, team members should be educated on VIVITROL treatment.

CANDIDATE ASSESSMENT AND EDUCATION

A specialized court can make a non-medical assessment to identify possible candidates for treatment.

  • Medical appropriateness for VIVITROL can only be determined by a healthcare professional. A healthcare professional may assess and educate a candidate to determine medical appropriateness for VIVITROL treatment.
  • If a candidate agrees to VIVITROL treatment, specialized courts may review expectations, procedures, and goals of the program with participants and confirm willingness to participate in the specialized court program.

PARTICIPANT TREATMENT

The healthcare professional and specialized court team continue to collaborate in the participant's treatment, including on issues such as insurance verification, medication and counseling treatment plans, prescribing and administration of VIVITROL and follow-on care.

ONGOING EVALUATION

Specialized court may monitor the participant's progress and the program can be evaluated over time to allow for assessments and areas for program improvement.
