REENTRY PROGRAMS

OFFERING VIVITROL PLUS COUNSELING AS A TREATMENT OPTION IN A REENTRY PROGRAM

Reentry programs may provide an opportunity for treatment for opioid and/or alcohol dependence for individuals upon release from incarceration.

Reentry programs interested in offering treatment for opioid or alcohol dependence as part of their court programs may want to consider the following:

A TEAM APPROACH

The reentry program may designate a team to lead the program. The program process may include roles and responsibilities of team members, education, development of materials and documentation. If VIVITROL is incorporated into the program, team members should be educated on VIVITROL treatment.

YOUR REENTRY PROGRAM

A reentry program can make a non-medical assessment to identify possible candidates for treatment.

  • Medical appropriateness for VIVITROL can only be determined by a healthcare professional. A healthcare professional may assess and educate a candidate to determine medical appropriateness for VIVITROL treatment.
  • If a candidate agrees to VIVITROL treatment, a reentry program may review expectations and procedures of the program with participants and confirm willingness to participate in the reentry program.

ASSESSMENT, EVALUATION AND CONSENT — CONFIRMING PARTICIPANTS

The healthcare professional and reentry program may continue to collaborate in the participant's treatment, including on issues such as insurance verification, medication and counseling treatment plans, prescribing and administration of VIVITROL and follow-on care.

CARE PLANNING AND ONGOING EVALUATION

When developing a care plan, reentry programs may include items such as scheduling counseling and injections and assisting with the healthcare professional to confirm insurance. Prior to release of participants, reentry program staff can arrange for a healthcare provider to prescribe and administer VIVITROL to participants who have undergone detoxification.

Reentry program teams may monitor the participant's progress and the program can be evaluated over time to allow for assessments and areas for program improvement.
